I am currently not offering any classes.
The Kids 101A mosaic workshop operates on the idea that art should be fun, creative and instill confidence within. The class is similar to the Mosaics 101 adult workshop but with a little less instruction and more playing. The participants of this class will be offered the use of precut glass as well as larger sheets of colored glass. Based on the age and experience of the children, I will provide instruction on the use of tools and allow the students to cut their own glass. Participants may choose amongst several projects which may include picture frames, art mosaics, or large and small mirrors.
This course is specifically designed for the more experienced mosaic student. During this class we will be using an indirect/reverse method, where the tessera are laid upside down onto paper, in this case we will be using mosaic mount paper, to create a perfectly smooth surface. Ideal for table tops, bathrooms, murals, etc. This class will focus on transferring a design or concept into mosaic. The end product will be a 21” circular mosaic table top with a 19” iron stand. After the mosaics are completed, thinset will be used to attach the mosaic onto the top of the table. The cost of this class is $180, which includes all materials. I do ask that all participants come prepared for this class with a well thought out design for his/her table. You will have the option of working with stained glass, ceramic tile, and/or vitreous glass.
Whether you are a beginner with little or no art experience or a continuing mosaic student, Mosaics 101 adult classes offer a comprehensive approach to designing, constructing, creating, and finishing a mosaic. After a brief lecture you will receive instructions on how to use various tools to cut the glass and the proper techniques to construct your mosaic. Each student will have the option to mosaic an art piece or a mirror on a square 12" x 12" frame using a wide selection of materials and colors. I will work with each student individually to develop a design that suits their skill/experience level as well as their own mosaic aesthetic. At the end of the class there will be a grouting demo and you will leave with all the materials to complete your mosaic including grout and hardware to hang your piece.
